(Seth said my special sensitivity to windy days during hay fever season, [and one I was well aware of], stemmed from an incident that took place while I was traveling to California with my parents when I was about three years old. [This would be about 1922.] On a windy day on the prairie, somewhere west of the Mississippi, but short of the West Coast, I stood by a hill with my parents. My mother and father were arguing loudly. Father threatened to leave my mother and my brother and me. My father also had hay fever. I had had attacks before, but after this incident I had hay fever each year. [I have always had it since I can consciously remember.] When I remarked that my father had got rid of his hay fever, Seth said he gave it to me. Seth said this is a common occurrence in illnesses being passed about among a family group. I identified with my father out of fear, Seth went on, because he threatened to leave me and thus must be all powerful; and since my father had hay fever, I acquired hay fever as a mistaken sign of strength.

(A new physical effect concerned the candle, standing on the table against the wall perhaps three feet from our group. All the windows in the apartment were closed with the exception of one kitchen window, because the night was extremely windy; this wind aggravated my hay fever. The candle burned with a low flame, one perhaps a quarter-inch high. Seth, talking about physical effects, said that he could probably have levitated the small coffee table we sat around tonight, with Ruburt’s help. But Ruburt still needs to develop his abilities further, Seth said. Abruptly the candle flame shot up to a noticeable degree, at least twice its previous height. The increase in brightness was plainly noticeable, causing all of us to look at the candle. Seth then said he had caused the flame to grow. It stayed brighter for several minutes as he continued talking, then died down. Bill confirmed my own thought at the time, that a stray burst of wind had affected the flame. We had no way of knowing if wind was responsible or not; the kitchen window was perhaps fifteen feet away, and around a corner. Seth went on to say that the candle flame would not grow higher again, because Ruburt was alerted to the effect now, and was watching it.

(Addition: Also, Seth said, when a person gets sick, they want the illness—a reference to my hay fever, taken from my father.

[...] Recently I have been using suggestion rather successfully on hay fever, following Seth’s ideas. [...]

(Later that evening hay fever seemed to get the best of me and I had a poor weekend. [...]

[...] The words—“Father, I refuse to accept your hay fever for myself; though I once took it, I now throw it free from us both”—these words will help.

Your hay fever situation will be greatly benefited if you particularly suggest that you be free of past (underlined) negative influences and suggestions. [...]

These instructions apply only during hay fever season. [...]

(This is the season for hay fever. [...] Seth told me some time ago that my father had given me his hay fever, and that for reasons of my own I had accepted the “gift.”

[...] In the very back of your mind you wondered if he knew, now, that he ever had hay fever, and it was that that triggered the unconscious projection.

[...] There are strong connections involving my father, myself, and hay fever.

[...] When you have a headache or a simple stomach upset, or if you have a chronic, annoying but not serious condition, such as trouble with your sinuses, or if you have hay fever — in those situations, remind yourself that your body does indeed have the capacity to heal itself.” [...]

(“Home, sex, power, you and the driveway, hay fever, the impulsive selves that we were talking about earlier tonight”—these are all words dictated to me by Jane abruptly as we sat waiting for the session to begin. [...]

The hay fever began early, the example set by your father, and you used it to temper your activities in terms of sports in particular, because your intents overall did not want you to go in that direction. [...]

(Last August Jane received a letter from Nelson Hayes, who was one of her professors at Skidmore. [...]

(Here Seth refers to my fall hay fever. In the unscheduled 182nd session for August 28,1965, Seth said my father gave me his hay fever when I was about three years old. It is true my father lost his hay fever when I was very young.

(Seth has discussed hay fever a few times; with these bits and pieces of information, plus knowledge of and use of suggestion, I managed to maintain myself in fairly good condition during last fall’s season; for me this is from mid-August to about the third week in September. [...]

[...] Hay fever season is not yet over, unfortunately. [...]

[...] I still find you both in excellent overall condition, regardless dear Joseph of the hay fever, and we shall take steps before next season to rid you of that.

(It will be recalled that in the 185th session Seth gave me some tips on how to help my hay fever through suggestion upon retiring at night. [...]

[...] Hay fever had been bothering me a great deal during the day. [...]

[...] Seth said I could have information concerning my parents and my hay fever at any time during a regular session, so I could get it all in writing. [...]

[...] When you have a headache or a simple stomach upset, or if you have a chronic, annoying but not serious condition, such as trouble with your sinuses, or if you have hay fever — in those situations, remind yourself that your body does indeed have the capacity to heal itself.

[...] Local milk supplies are safe to drink, since dairy cattle are eating corn and hay that’s been stored for months, but no one really knows the effects of radiation on the unborn calves being carried by many cows in the plant area. [...]

A follower of Hay Chi-Chu (my phonetic interpretation) who was a combination outcast-commander and merchant for the foreigners who lived in the mountains; an outpost to the northwest, where it snowed severely in the wintertime.

[...] On Tuesday afternoon when I began the blowup of the drawing to transfer in turn to the panel for painting, the symptoms began—coughing, sneezing, etc., much like aggravated hay fever symptoms. [...]

The same sort of situation operates in hay fever, for instance, and for that matter in most other dis-eases (with the hyphen).
