(I did remember a vivid dream of last night, though, and described it to Jane. With a young agile man, I’d climbed up the rough outside red brick wall of an apartment house—several stories up, at least, and climbed in through a window into my own apartment. Jane wasn’t in the dream. I had been a little nervous about the climb up the sheer wall, but had managed it okay. So had my younger friend. Now, I refused to go back out the window and down the wall, like a fly or an animal might. Instead my companion was assigned this job: Each day his task was to climb back out the window with perhaps three looseleaf volumes of the Seth material tucked under one arm. With the other, and his feet, he was to maneuver his way back down the wall, with only a white rope as an aid, until he reached the street. I saw him do this, and wished him good luck. I do not know what he was to do on the street, or ground level, with the notebooks.

[...] As you can climb trees, both up and down the branches, so you can climb times in the same way. [...] It has branches that you do not climb and do not recognize, and so they are not real to you. [...]

(Long involved adventure type dream, spy adventure I think; I climb cliffs, castle moats etc, seeking clues and am very effective. [...]

[...] The climbing up was also connected with fruit, as you might climb a tree to pluck it. [...]

[...] I had to climb up a long ladder set against a building wall to get to the doctor and even as I talked to him I had to stand below him and look up. [...]

[...] You had to climb up, symbolically, but the ladder you see was one-directional rather than crooked, and this shows that the road is clear.

Climb up my words then, rush up the vowels and the syllables and let them form for you a ladder of energy by which you can send. And let them form a foundation upon which you can climb to find your own reality and your own existence that is in itself independent, both of my words and even of the room in which now your bodies sit, for that independent inner self wanders through all existences that you have known, in your terms, has a wisdom and knowledge that you can use. [...]

Some mountain climbers, when asked why they climb a certain peak, respond “because the mountain is there to be climbed,” so the natural approach, the magical approach, is to be used because it exists—and because it represents an open doorway into a world of reality that is always present, always at the base of all of your cultures and experience. [...]

(The closest Jane could come on the hill details, then, is that it was a longer and gradual incline rather than a short upright climb; and that it raised up perhaps the height of a one-story building in the course of its climb. [...]

(Very loud.) I want you to climb the vowels and syllables of this voice as if they were indeed a ladder, and let them carry you into dimensions that are native to you, dimensions that are yours by right, that are your heritage; (really booming) dimensions of awareness that you carry within you both day and night, beneath the level of your ordinary days.
