You did not die by water, but it was a past reincarnational self and you nearly drowned and you were pursued by sharks, but you did not drown at that time. This was off the south coast of Africa in approximately 1342 and it was not a galley but another kind of ship, a native ship, but with a high mast.

Now, you must try to stretch your imagination and to feel these realities because the intellect alone cannot comprehend them. Now, psychological time is your best method for perceiving these actualities. You can feel what you cannot necessarily describe verbally, and know through direct experience what even the physical brain cannot describe nor comprehend, for you are more than the physical brain that you have now. I am no poet but then thinking of one of Ruburt’s poems, then think of the brain, indeed, as a web you form about the inner self. A web works to help you manipulate in a world of space and time which is, indeed, as nebulous and as precarious, and as delicate, as any spider’s web, and hangs indeed in as precarious a balance. You form this and then perceive the world, but your viewpoint is very small and the garden you perceive very intimate, but within yourself you have far greater abilities of perception and you are not limited to Wednesday or Thursday.

In your terms, and in your terms only, I could be referred to, and I told Ruburt this, as a sixth self of his in your future but this is only in your terms of reference and to get the idea across for he will not become what I am. That, you see, is impossible because I am myself and so verbally there are certain answers that cannot be given but must be intuitively understood. But the fact that I exist and can communicate should show you in simple terms, and in your terms of reference, that other “higher aspects” of your personality can help you out on occasion and do exist.

In the out-of-body state this rose remembers all the out-of-body experiences it has had, but when it comes back to the body it forgets them all. This experience alone with me will yield financial benefits, but not because you would naturally like it to be so, but because you are expanding, and for some other allied causes. [...] You were saddled with rather troublesome ones, and for reasons which I will go into sometime later; but not involving guilt of any sort.

To me this is all so obvious that I almost hesitate to mention it, but this is because I tend to forget what human existence on your plane actually involves. These are but one set of parents. [...] You see, when you really realize the sum of yourself these problems will fade entirely, but please in the meantime take my word for it.

You cannot of course perform such an achievement yet, but I hope that one day we may attain it. As far as I know this has not been tried on such a scale, but only because all prerequisite circumstances have not been met.

You learned discipline, for to a large extent you did not allow yourself to express your own creativity but put yourself at the service of the communication of others. [...]

I have seen many starers in my day, but I have never seen a starer such as this one, and if there are holes in our poor friend Ruburt’s back, when the session is over then you had better stuff them with cotton, but know where they came from. Now our friend, Ruburt, is not about to go for all this sexual hanky-panky that is described in this precious book, but the man who wrote the book picked up his information from the inner self and then he made a story about it. And when you come to class from now on I will expect to find you all here, not just the physical self, not just the intellectual self, not just the portions of yourself that you term, psychically inclined, but the emotional self. [...] It is true I have not cried, but if things continue as they are, I may be about to, for I want your entire self here and expressive. [...] But to come truly alive, and to come truly alive in this room, you must show far more. [...]

Now what I tell you, to some extent, must be distorted because when I speak I use words, but the inner self interprets the words that are spoken. [...] You do not need me to sit here and speak to you but physically you think that you do and so I am here. Physically you believe that you are here and so you are here but other portions of your identity are in other places and other times, and I use those terms very loosely. They are only to make you happy because the words, times and places, have a meaning to you but in your basic reality you do not know times nor places. [...]

[...] Now you cannot verbalize what I am or what happens in this room, but then, you cannot verbalize what you are or what happens within yourself or within your mind. And there are journeys that each of you embark upon, and you do not know in words the nature of the destination, and you do not know when you arrive at this destination, and you do not know when the destination is no longer a destination but a way. [...] You deal with the words physically but your inner self has no need of verbalization. [...] You know but you cannot find the words. [...]

You could have followed still another course—one in which you did not become involved in any intellectual or challenging concepts but bypassed them completely. That kind of painting can be excellent, but it also involves an intense immersion in the emotions, to the exclusion of any important conceptualizing. The greatest kind of painting includes both the intuitions and the intellect, but in your terms this also requires the maturing of the high intellect. [...]

[...] Again, you recognize them, but you do not try to rise above them emotionally. The painting does not bring in money, so to punish yourself you do not enjoy it sufficiently—but concentrate upon the distractions instead. You do your financial part with the books, but you still tie in your social identity with your painting, and to some extent you still feel that that social identity is dependent upon the money your “art” should produce, so you punish yourself by not enjoying your painting time. [...]

[...] You are determined to use your abilities, but you are ever on your guard to see that you use your abilities, and that they do not “use you;” so you set up working habits, but you do not allow yourself a real environment of freedom in which to work. [...]

[...] The five hundred and some-odd sessions we have barely represent an outline, but they are enough to start with. [...] But you cannot utilize the material until you understand it.

This sense is much like empathy, but far more vital. (Seth says that we can’t experience these Inner Senses in their full intensity now, because our nervous systems can’t handle that much stimuli.) It’s difficult to categorize experiences of this kind, but I think that I was using inner vibrational touch in the following instance:

[...] We are not to be psychic Peeping Toms, but should use these abilities only to help others or, joyfully, as we use muscles and bones. The intent is important, but I don’t believe that you can use these senses wrongfully in any basic way; if you aren’t ready to utilize them properly, your own personality will see to it that you don’t use them consciously at all.

[...] Her voice was but a little stronger than normal, her pacing regular, her eyes dark as usual. Her delivery in the beginning was rather slow and interspersed with pauses, but after a page or so it began to pick up speed, until she had me writing at a pretty good rate. [...]

[...] Not a reflection, therefore, but a by-product involving not only a chemical reaction but the transformation of energy from one state to another.

[...] Eyes closed tightly but I saw a flood of light, same quality as daylight. [...] So definite, vivid and unmistakable that I thought my eyes must be open—but they were not. [...]

[...] It delights you but you are like a man with a beautiful wife. He shows her off (Jane leaned forward for emphasis, eyes open and very dark), but he does not really let her work or be herself. [...] But you do not allow it its full penetrating freedom.

Now by all conventional standards I should say to you: but for such a young man indeed, you have time to learn. (Smile.) You will learn, and are learning, but you have dealt also with this problem in different ways in other lives, so it is not so new to you. [...] So your intellect should not be superficially enjoyed, but deeply used.

You wind it up like a fine toy, but you are careful of the directions in which you let it run. Now I am not saying, and do not mean, that you are narrow-minded in any way I am saying that your intellect is a fine one, but you have allowed yourself to be fascinated by its sparkling quality, and not used it thoroughly as a tool.

You can, indeed, but do not deny the part of you that wanted to wring the other man’s neck. But you were so frightened of the thought that you immediately inhibited it. [...] Now, say the following happened, at least you were aware of the thought, but say, in your terms, you progressed to the point where you were no longer aware of the feeling. [...]

Our poor man again is aware, subconsciously of the intent, but only to some degree. [...] Now, far be it from me, even in a fantasy, to accuse you of such an act, but you stand here and look at a slattern and this time you are out of your mind. But again, it behooves you to deny your true feelings in order to be spiritual, which is not true spirituality and you say again, God bless you, may you go in peace, and this time the psychic safety valve has had too much. It does, indeed, in your terms, but that knowledge is also available to you. [...] The holy soul turned inside out is some fleshpot, let’s put it that way, but you have always been involved with questions concerning good and evil and you had two existences in two civilizations in Egypt. [...] It is not a fascinating story to be told for your edification and enjoyment so I hope you will enjoy it when it comes, but it will help when you can understand it. [...]

There is a delicate balance to be maintained, but energy will come to you. [...] But from this passionate oath of involvement will be wrung the final intense isolation and comprehension from which your best work will come. [...]

There can be no holding back of commitment, involvement, or ability in one aspect of your lives but it will be reflected in others, that is in other aspects where you want growth. You know I do not mean that you should give your energy to every weird cause, but that you should speak out your opinions, that you should use your abilities in your outside endeavors for your own sake. “It” means added complexity, but you will synthesize this complexity in your work, and you must. [...] If you follow this advice you will find extra dimension, not only in your work but in all aspects of your daily lives, both psychic and physical. [...]
